Home Depot’s app is useful and intuitive in terms of finding items, navigating the store, pulling up product information, comparing prices, checking availability and adding items to your cart. Its suggestions for additional items were also helpful. The home improvement giant excelled in inventory, with a focus on product availability and where to find items in the store, along with product reviews and advice. Home Depot clearly recognizes the challenges of shopping in its stores and has done a good job of addressing those issues. Moving forward, the retailer could benefit from focusing on personalization. While in the store, the app never attempted to push promotions or services based on personal preferences—all of the app’s suggestions were generic promotions based on immediate user actions. Overall, the experience was well-executed, but very utilitarian. The app is quite helpful if you know exactly what you want, but shoppers looking for more assistance are probably still better off seeking out an associate.
