Dick’s Sporting Goods seems to have the right idea – but struggles to execute with accuracy. Their feature set included a wide variety of features that would ideally let shoppers explore pricing information, comparative pricing, inventory information both in-store and online, and some customer service focused capabilities – but nearly all of them failed to work properly. Each time we attempted to scan a barcode, lookup pricing information, or look for online inventory – it didn’t seem to work properly. So while Dick’s score is arguably higher than it should be. There were a significant number of use cases that were “available” via the application but did not function properly, if at all. Dick’s has recognized the need for an improved in-store shopping experience, but needs to take it one step further and ensure that it’s shoppers are able to use their mobile devices to enhance the experience.
