GLOBAL INTRANET FOR MEDICAL DEVICE MANUFACTURER
18,000 EMPLOYEES IMPACTEDZimmer and Biomet recently merged and were in the process of cultivating a new company culture. Worldwide, Zimmer Biomet team members used multiple legacy intranets which created confusion and inconsistency for end-users and content owners alike. Information was spread throughout multiple locations and not always up-to-date or accurate. HR self-service tools and information were not easily found. The legacy sites did not support a global audience and were not mobile-friendly.
Our InsightOur team completed interviews, card sorts and whiteboard sessions to understand Zimmer Biomet’s evolving intranet needs and meet the expectations of end-users. The goal was to build a news-centric, unified global intranet that would promote collaboration amongst all regions and departments. Content creation needed to be decentralized, support multiple languages, and require no IT involvement to publish.
EMPLOYEE PRODUCTIVITY + COLLABORATION
950 PAGES BUILT
Built in SharePoint 2013 on premises, UX Designers and Developers created a toolkit of branded web parts and page layouts that promotes Zimmer Biomet’s culture. Content can be published in multiple languages, and Google Translate is embedded to provide real-time translations to the end-user’s native language. Analytics are captured to monitor trends and identify opportunities for improvement.
GLOBAL CONTENT MANAGEMENT
30 DEPARTMENTS BROUGHT TOGETHER
Content owners were selected to create and maintain content relevant to their departments, locations, or regions. A governance plan for content owners developed to provide guidelines and best practices in an easily consumable and intuitive format.
4 LEGACY INTRANETS RETIRED
The Intranet is now a unified communication channel that provides consistent and intuitive navigation which reduces confusion and helps users and information faster. Content owners are empowered to create new content and write their own news articles to improve communication and visibility throughout the company. The Governance Wiki provides user friendly processes, guidelines and training resources necessary to ensure content owners will succeed in their new roles. As a result, four legacy intranets were able to be retired.
