Streamlining large-scale app development

The Challenge

Global cable and satellite sports channel ESPN developed and launched 60+ apps across platforms over four years. Each of these was a native app, created using a myriad of suppliers and approaches. This method resulted in a 6-9 month lead-time for new apps and allowed for only limited synergies between projects. They needed a better solution.


To help streamline ESPN’s process, we leveraged GMF and added reusable components applicable to the brand for each project. We used standardized CRM, analytics and video. We also developed a new methodology to scope, design, deliver and test.


We delivered four apps for three markets, covering three different sports, in less than six months. The average lead-time for launch was 3.5 months, and the average cost reduction was 30%.
