MoDev UX Event: What Does the Future of Business Look Like?

On Monday and Tuesday of this week, DMI sponsored an event hosted by MoDev on User Experience. At the Tyson’s Corner Hilton Hotel, over 300 designers, developers, tech experts, authors, freelancers (you name it!) attended to learn more about UX trends, skills, and the future of UX.

On Tuesday, Anthony Pappas spoke to the whole audience in a session titled “The Future of Business: The Rise of Mobile-Centric Companies.”

During his session, Anthony spoke to the notion that  the world is becoming increasingly mobile, consumers are constantly connected. He spoke about how companies like Apple, Uber and Voyce have masted the ability to provide seamless experiences for its users…not only through the screen of a phone or an iPad, but an overall experience. If you don’t want to wait in line at the Apple store, you can check yourself out. You no longer have to wait on a street corner to hail a cab, the cab comes to you. Brands and businesses have started to shift their focus and their resources, and we believe it’s just the beginning of a much larger transformation. Businesses and agencies are not currently structured in a way that provides an efficient and holistic approach to mobility.

DMI is forging a path into the future, and provides services that are centered around practice areas like: wearables, data monetization, enterprise mobility, customer loyalty etc. Here are just a few reasons why we’re betting on mobility:

  • 67% of CIOs and IT professionals believe mobility will impact their businesses as much or more than the internet did in the 1990s
  • The global enterprise mobility marketing will rake in $140 billion a year by 2020
  • Tablets have overtaken the sale of PC’s
  • 45% of organizations will spend at least $500,000 on mobile projects over the next 12 to 15 months

As for the UX community… this translates into two major changes: (1) It is no longer just about the interface, rather, about the entire customer experience; and (2) UX will need to have a broader knowledge of  business processes.

A big thanks to MoDev UX for having us – we had a great time at the event! Looking forward to the next one!
