DMI Inn the Community

April 18th, 2014

DMI Inn the Community

DMI recently received an award for our commitment to volunteering at the Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The Children’s Inn provides a supportive environment for families of sick children to stay, while the child receives cutting-edge medical treatment at NIH.

I want to say thanks to the DMI employees who’ve done their part – often going above and beyond in their service to the Children’s Inn, staying far past their volunteer commitment time. I’m honored to be a part of this team where the saying “It’s better to give than to receive” really gets taken to heart.

The partnership between the Children’s Inn and DMI was established in early 2012. Each month, DMI employees volunteer their personal time – after work – to prepare, serve, and share meals with families living at the Inn.

In many ways, it really is better to give than to receive. It’s a sobering experience to meet families who are going through challenging times. It’s a great way to put my own “problems” into better perspective. It’s also a great way for us DMI folks to connect too. We all look forward to rolling up our sleeves, working together in the kitchen, serving the families and hearing their stories.

DMI employees are the cream of the crop in the professional world. And their commitment to serving the community is second to none. I am proud to work with such incredible people who go above and beyond during the work day and still find time to volunteer and be part of something bigger outside the workplace.

The Children’s Inn is an exceptional organization that improves the lives of everyone who walks through their doors – patients, families and volunteers. Your support can go a long way to help them keep providing housing and support services to families in need.

Here are a few ways you can help:

  1. If you’re local to the Washington, DC area, please consider volunteering at the Children’s Inn.  Individual and group volunteers are welcome.  Details are here.
  2. Host a food drive. The collected food items will stock the pantry at the Children’s Inn.
  3. Make a donation to help make sure that families of sick children have a place to stay while receiving treatment.

Thanks for reading.
